This title is kind of misleading. You're probably wondering what I had for lunch that was so great it would deserve the label as best ever? Well the truth is I had nothing for lunch. Nothing but clean, fresh, mountain air. Luckily in my job I travel all over the state of Maryland. Today I happened to be near a very scenic spot and decided to just use my 30 minutes to enjoy "lunch" using other senses (vision & hearing) instead of taste.
This morning was really foggy in our area. When I made my stop the fog had almost lifted (not quite) and the sun was breaking through the low clouds (you can kind of see the fog lingering in the upper trees). The shot I got was taken on a mountain side not far from the peak. I really need to qualify what a mountain is for us. I was in the Blue Ridge portion of Maryland when I stopped. Where I was probably is about 1530 ft. above sea level. Pretty high for Maryland but compared to "real" mountains? Not so much. The highest point in Maryland incidentally (in Garrett County) is in excess of 3000 ft. above sea level in the Appalachian mountain chain.
It's kind of funny. I never saw a mountain in person until I was about 14 or 15 years old. I grew up in a part of Maryland that is completely flat mostly comprised of farmland, wetlands, marshes, and rivers. All very close to sea level! For me the first time was like wow! It literally felt like a trip to the Rockies. Heck any time we crossed the Chesapeake Bay growing up was a huge deal! So now I love all areas of our beautiful state. Maryland is such a small state and not many realize the natural beauty here. As a Geography major in college there isn't a cooler place to study! Such amazing things to see and even to this day I sometimes find places I've never seen. Literally we go from the Atlantic Ocean, across the Chesapeake, through the major cities of Washington DC & Baltimore, to the rolling hills, Blue Ridge Mountains, all the way west to the Appalachians! Can you tell I'm a true geography nerd? And this post has spawned another whole set of topics in my mind I must now write about. All of the different areas of Maryland.
So I hope you enjoy this picture. As I took my brief walk and took it all in I was again reminded to not let the simple pleasures go unnoticed or unappreciated. It seems like a misty day in the woods. But it was so much more. The moisture dripping off the trees, birds chirping, squirrels & chipmunks running through the leaves. For a few minutes I was able to just be there and take it all in. Amazing what it does for you. Thanks so much for reading and I hope to continue to bring you something interesting a few times a week!
