Pictures: Deep Creek Lake

Deep Creek Lake (MD) is located in the western most Maryland County - Garrett and is just north of the town of Oakland, Maryland. The area is well known for having snowy, frigid, brutal winter weather due to elevation. A nearby ski resort (Wisp) is the only ski resort located in the entire State of Maryland. Cooler summers make it a very popular vacation spot due to the numerous recreational activities that are available in the area which include fishing, swimming, tubing, boating, etc. The lake is man made and was constructed as a hydroelectric project in the 1920's along a tributary to the Youghiogheny river. The State of Maryland now owns it and the lake is part of Deep Creek Lake State Park. There is abundant fishing opportunity year round (including ice fishing during some winters) with many different species of fish including various bass, trout, bluegill, and perch. There are also other State Parks in the area (which I have visited previously but need to return to for photos) that offer hiking and scenic natural views. Deep Creek Lake is 3,628 acres in size, includes almost 70 miles of shoreline, has a maximum depth of about 75 feet, and is located at an elevation of 2,461 feet.

Here are a few pictures taken after my daughter's college graduation. We had lunch at a nice place located right on Deep Creek Lake and I went down to the waterfront afterward to take these. As always thank you for reading and enjoy these pictures. All are taken with our Nikon D5500.
